Sparrow's Nest

Always sitting on a thought.

Career

My favorite type/method of design has always been illustration. I have always loved to draw. There is something organic about just creating something with your own hands. I think it will always hold a place in my heart even if I discover something I like more.
My career end-goal is to be self-employed. However, I plan on being employed by other people until I get fairly confident in what I can do and I’m in a place where it won’t be as dangerous or lossy for me to try working on my own. Kind of like holding onto things to learn balance when you’re trying to learn how to skate – eventually you don’t need the guidance anymore. That is my ultimate goal for my career in design and illustration.

Design Sites

Sites that I find that seem interesting and inspiring to me.

Makespace!

This is a graphic design website I found that really caught my eye + their headquarters are in Louisville! I love the colors and how things shift when you move your cursor over them. I love how some elements pop in and out when you scroll – and I love the bee cursor that happens when you hover over the flower on the right side of the page.

Red Toad Media

This is another graphic design website I discovered that is located in Kentucky. I love that right away on the page, it’s interactive and fun. I have a feeling this helps draw people’s attention to their services. I also like how the “Our Services” buttons react when you hover over them.

The Furrow

The Furrow is a well-adjusted studio located in Lexington that does multiple types of graphic design. I recognize their style and their site is vibrant. I like how everything reacts to the user’s actions here, too. I love that the site feels simple and complex at the same time somehow.
